This article came to my attention today. I have no idea on the factual
nature of it. But, it was enough for me to stand up and shout, I DON’T
THINK SO!
Anyway, before you finish reading this post, you need to click
on the site below, read the article, then come back.

Death of Free Internet is Imminent – Canada will become Test Case

Welcome back.

First, I strongly disagree with what I took as a slap at our neighbors
to the north. As was mentioned earlier in the article “The people used
the power of the Internet and the little guys won”, well, those ‘people’
WERE Canadians. And to expect hardly “a whimper from the Canadians” was
the same mind set Santa Ana had when he and his army of thousands went
charging up to a little chapel called the Alamo. They may be the quiet,
but don’t underestimate them. Still waters run deep.

Second, I strongly agree with the rest. The Internet is the greatest
technological breakthrough that’s ever happened to the planet as a whole.
For the first time in history we have the chance to freely and openly
exchange ideas, form relationships, and engage in commerce with anybody
and everybody across this vast blue world of ours. We are getting to
know each other’s cultures, religions, families, wants, and dreams. This
is causing the barriers of fear and mistrust to crumble and fall. And
that scares the heck out of any government that is truly not of and
for their people.

With anything good will come some bad. So it is with the internet. There
are the unscrupulous, the scammers, the theives, and the monsters. But,
they have been with us way before the internet. Anybody remember obscene
phone calls? Thanks to caller ID, they’re gone but, we still have the
perverts in the parks. So we have to watch our children as intently on
the computers as we watch them in the parks.

Now internet scared governments will use that to frighten us into allowing
our free internet to be regulated, monitored, and homogenized, all in
the name of safety and security. Benjamin Franklin said, “Those who would
give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve
neither liberty nor safety.”

And what better way to regulate us than to grant big business the right to
seize our free internet and dole out access for a penny a keystroke or
whatever they deem profitable. Because the best way to control people is
through their pockets.

So to you governments and big business’ out there who are seriously
contemplating this action, myself and about a billion of my new best
friends are declaring:

We the Citizens of Earth proclaim the World Wide Web
Free Space. Not to be controlled, regulated, or held
hostage for profit. Leave it alone. We mean it!!
